Carnitine (Acetyl L –Carnitine)

Carnitine is an important molecule for the metabolism of fatty acids. It functions as transporter and modulator.
In transporting it brings the fatty acids from the cellular cytoplasm to the mitochondrion, where beta-oxidation takes place, or better the “extraction” of energy from the transported lipids. It performs the modulation of the A coenzyme fundamental in energetic processes. Methionine and lysine are the precursors through which the organism synthesises carnitine. Obviously foods of animal origin contain different quantities of carnitine.

The benefits, from an athletic point of view, are due to the fact that the ability to bring the fatty acids as an energetic underlying layer depends on the carnitine. Furthermore, with physical activity, part of it tends to be used, lowering its concentration and raising its need. The average requirement for athletes is about 2 grams a day.
