Track and field events: the disciplines


Olympic track and field vents can be divided into 3 main categories: throwing, jumping and running.
The competitions foresee separate trials for men and women.

throwing:
- javelin throw
- discus throw
- shot put
- hammer throw

jumping:
- high jump
- long jump
- triple jump
- pole vault

running:
sprints:
- 100 meters
- 200 meters
- 400 meters
- 800 meters

middle distance
- 1500 meters
- 3000 meters steeplechase

long distance
- 5000 meters
- 10,000 meters
- marathon (41,195 km)

hurdles
- 100 meters women’s hurdles
- 110 meters men’s hurdles
- 400 meters hurdles

relay
- relay 4 x 100
- relay 4 x 400

walk
- walk 20 km
- walk 50 km

multi events:
- pentathlon: (long jump, javelin throw, 200 meters, discus throw, 1500 meters)
- decathlon: (100 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meters, 110 meters hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, 1500 meters)

In the track and field events, the element that determines success is strength, in all of its expressions.

Strength is one thing, but together with training it can be distinguished into different areas. Therefore, it can be divided into strength endurance; elastic strength; explosive strength and maximum strength.
