Individual offense basics without the ball

basketThey represent the basis of basketball and it is therefore fundamental to learn them first and master them. Their management will optimise the game, enabling the players to take advantage of every minimum error the adversary makes, and able to make the game vertical. The following can be counted among the basics of this category:

Fundamental position

It is relatively subjective, able to make and make the player feel reactive, balanced and strong.
It is obtained by placing the feet more or less at the same width of the shoulders, the heels slightly raised, lower limbs semi-bent, hands forward, head leaning forward, low barycenter.

Basketball run

It must enable fast changes in speed and direction and is therefore highly functional. It is characterized by a low barycenter, less foot-rolling, greater leaning on the ball of the foot.

Running backwards

The steps are short and fast, it conserves the characteristics of the basketball run and enables the players to move away from the adversary while keeping the same front.

Stop and turn

It is a sudden stop in running, with immediate pick up of the fundamental position and balance. The following are distinguished:

- one-time stopping: very rapid, can be used when running speed is not excessive and feet touch the ground at the same time;

- double-time stopping: used when running speed is greatly sustained and feet touch the ground in two different times. The weight of the body will be equally shared between the two feet.

Turning

Normally follows stopping, rotation occurs by taking advantage of the “pivot pin” foot and turns on the longitudinal axis. The pivot foot does not leave the ground in order to not make a passing violation. Turning is a useful movement for getting unmarked or freeing oneself from a tight marking to then make a pass. Turning must be ventral or dorsal, according to the space offered by the game situation.

Changing direction

It can be frontal when the weight of the body is brought to the foot outside the direction the player wants to take, in order to set the body for an explosive push forward in new direction; or dorsal in which the internal foot is brought forward, as well as the leg in order to dorsally turn in the new direction. The first type, frontal, has tighter angles and is faster than dorsal turning, which, however, is very sure. The choice of one or the other depends on the situation on the court.

Changing speed

It is very important and is carried out be increasing or decreasing pushing power and running frequency. In order to be efficacious, changing speed must be immediate and sudden.
