Organization of teaching volleyball

volleyIn the moment in which the skills of volleyball are proposed, many students do not have any base to structure them on. It will be opportune to check their initial baggage before planning the work. For this purpose it will also be useful to evaluate the conditional skills (jumping), in order to better prepare the game situations (net height, etc.), therefore stimulating them in the game and in the variety of skills used, rather than frightening them with the obstacle of a net that is too high, which induces them to mainly face the problem of getting the ball over it.

Naturally, there will be more or less capable subjects, since it is a non-selective training phase the latter should be facilitated above all.
In volleyball, as in mini-volleyball, one of the biggest problems consists in knowing how to hit the ball at the highest point of the jump (at the moment of the spike), apart from knowing how to manage the surface available (above all when moving from mini-volleyball to volleyball with six players). If at the beginning the bases are not laid for an opportune development of the skills, there will players that only aim at passing the ball into the adversary’s court in a “volley” instead of an “attack”.
The problem with the attack-defense is seen as one of the most important, together with the serve and receiving, and continuous training must also take into consideration the first phases of the game and a lower net will favorably influence the number of spikes and blocks during a game. Above all using the block must be encouraged seeing that its learning is postponed, with the result of losing even two seasons to learn it, when it will inevitably be essential. Practicing with a net that is too high, which dissuades carrying out the movement, in favor of jumping, will never be gratifying. On the contrary, players who make “winning” blocks have a sort of satisfaction that can be compared to that of a spike that scores a point.

Many difficulties arise when learning the approach to making an attack, starting with coordinating the lower limbs with the upper ones. The approach with the net and the ball, in fact, creates a new situation. We will therefore start by eliminating the lob and subsequently placing an obstacle between the step and the takeoff can be useful, which will consequently increase the pre-jump. Other specific advantages will be the increase in coordination, elevation, balance and peripheral vision of the court. We will make the action more complex by adding a simple lob with considerable speed e trajectory.

In this way even the rotation of the roles will be exploited, which will prove useful at the moment of competition, because having tried each situation will make both the execution and the interpretation (and therefore the prediction) of the adversary’s attack easier. Before requesting exercises, it will be a good idea to warn them to not interrupt the game play, that is it will develop the skills of “saving” an imperfect action even during the game.
From the first attack exercises the students must become accustomed to not “hitting the ball over the net” indifferently, but in a pre-established area of the court, and even if it will be quite difficult at the beginning, at least a mindset toward doing it will be created. An important and essential sublayer for when the technique will have been acquired.
In this way they will also be able to interpret teammates’ and adversaries’ movements, improving the development of any action, whether defensive or offensive. For this purpose it is useful to put the players in defense.

Volleyball is among the situation sports, in that learning to play requires learning technique, but just as important, having an excellent ability to adapt to the changing situations of the game: knowing how to choose the right technical movement is necessary. Like all team sports, it tends to involve a high number of people, above all because it also lets people play whose physical qualities are not considerably striking. Coordination is very important and makes learning and carrying out the skills easier.
